Month 2

Dear Lia,

You turned 2 months old yesterday, which happily coincided with Easter Sunday. This is significant not only because it's the day Jesus was raised from the dead, it's also the day of the Annual Mantaring Egg/Treasure Hunt.

So we dressed you up in a pretty pink dress and brought you to Tito Jojo's house in ParaƱaque. we weren't planning on making you join the egg hunt, but Lola Vinchu picked you up and had your Yaya Jenny do the egg hunting for you. They would pick up eggs, touch it to your hand and then put it in your paper bag. You tolerated it for a while, until Lola tried to dip you in the fish pond to get the eggs floating in there. That was the last straw. You didn't cry but you frowned very hard until Lola got the hint. And when we started opening the eggs to get the candies inside, you were totally uninterested so your Mommy and Daddy took it as a hint that we could eat all your candies for you. Thanks Lia! Don't worry, you'll have the sweets back through mommy's milk.

The past month has brough you a lot of other milestones. You were baptised and you wore the baptismal dress I wore when I was baptised. You didn't cry at all that day. In fact you slept right through the whole ceremony, and the party afterwards, impressing everyone by how well behaved you were. But your Daddy and I knew it was all a show. You were being good because there were "other people". All the crying and super pooping happens when it's just the three of us. Which has led us to believe you are a Public Relations Prodigy. We are so proud.

You are the star of every party we bring you too. Everyone wants to hold and carry you and be with you all the time. Your Lola Cora comes over everyday, she enjoys putting you to sleep. We stay with Lola Vinchu every weekend and she loves to play with you and tell you stories. You are always so patient with them and all the attention you get, you are turning into the perfect baby celebrity.

In less than two months, you have nearly doubled your weight, and the dimples in your arms and legs have become full blown creases. The clothes that were loose when you were newly born are now bursting between buttons. You're also growing up to look more and more like your Daddy every day. It makes me so happy, and your Daddy likes to deny that you look like him but I know he is secretly pleased.

You've learned a lot of new tricks. You hold up your head effortlessly now, and even push your chest up from the bed. You've also become mobile, even if it's unconsciously. You can't crawl yet, and don't like being laid face down on the bed when you're awake. But you infinitely prefer sleeping on your tummy. And somehow, after sleeping for 5-7 hours at night, you always end up in one corner of the crib, with your head burried in the pillows we use to make sure you don't hit your head.

My favorite trick by far, is that you've finally learned to smile. Not those random sleep-smiles, but real, social smiles. You don't do it very often, and automatically shut down when a camera is in view. It's been so difficult to capture you smiling on camera but I guess that makes your smiles all the more precious because only the people you like can see you smile.

This is the only picture I've been able to take of you smiling. Even if I had to adjust the brightness, it really shows how beautiful you are and how much more beautiful you will be. Someday, you will learn to smile at cameras all the time, and make funny faces like your titos and titas are so fond of doing. But for now, I will treasure each smile like a precious little pearl. Because with just one little just-for-mommy smiles, you've made me forget all the nine months of sickness and discomfort and pain.

You bring your Dad and me and everyone around you so much joy, you are the greatest blessing we've ever received.

Love, Mommy
